From dpreview.com
Panasonic has formally announced the much-discussed DMC-GF5. We’ve had a pre-production GF5 for a couple of days, so we’ve had a look at what’s changed and what the diminutive Micro Four Thirds camera offers to compact camera users looking for better image quality but still wanting the option to simply point and shoot. The 12MP camera is a subtle revision over the GF3, but a higher-res screen, refined user interface and the inclusion of Panasonic’s retractable 14-42mm power zoom lens for a list price of $749.99/£579 makes it worth looking at. Press Release: LUMIX GF5 features a newly developed 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and incorporates a variety of shooting options to enhance photography experience
SECAUCUS, NJ (April 5, 2012) – Panasonic today announced a new digital interchangeable lens system camera, the LUMIX DMC-GF5, which joins Panasonic’s award-winning LUMIX G Series of digital cameras, which are acclaimed for their high image quality with small and compact body and lenses. The LUMIX GF5 features a newly developed 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and redesigned Venus Engine, helping to ensure true-to-life images through exceptional resolution, image rendering and color reproduction. Even in low-light situations and at a maximum 12800 high ISO sensitivity, the LUMIX GF5 produces stunning photos and videos. The noise reduction system includes a combination 3DNR (3D Noise Reduction) and MNR (Multi-process Noise Reduction) allowing for both bright areas and dark areas to be faithfully reproduced with minimal noise in high sensitivity image recording.
Sporting a sophisticated and stylish design, the LUMIX GF5 features a compact, lightweight body with built-in flash. A rubberized grip makes it easier for users to comfortably hold the camera in one hand. Complying with Micro Four Thirds standard, a wide range of interchangeable lenses is offered to expand photographic experience even more broadly at higher level of photo quality.
“Panasonic expects the LUMIX GF5 to please photo enthusiasts and budding photographers that are looking for the next step from the traditional point-and-shoot camera,” said Christopher Rice, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Marketing Company of North America. “The camera’s host of shooting options makes photography even more artistic, yet easy for users of any experience level. The powerful Venus Engine and sensor allows the camera to achieve exceptional photo quality in a range of shooting environments.”
The LUMIX GF5, like all cameras in the LUMIX G Series, adopts Contrast AF (Auto Focus), so focusing is controlled by the image sensor. Compared with the Phase difference system AF, Contrast AF boasts higher accuracy, especially when shooting with a bright lens with small F value. To further advance the Contrast AF, the GF5 incorporates full-area focusing, making it possible to set focus on any point in the field of view.
Featuring an ultra high-speed Light Speed AF, the LUMIX GF5 can focus in approximately 0.09*1 seconds making it possible to capture even fast moving subjects clearly. Combined with Touch AF control and high-speed burst shooting at four frames per second in full resolution, it has never been easier to capture fast-moving objects clearly. Additionally, Pinpoint AF allows for even more precise focus by further enlarging the focus area, assisting, for example, to set focus directly on the pupil of an eye.
The LUMIX GF5’s large, 3.0-inch 920,000-dot high-precision touch display and Graphic User Interface (GUI) provide users with ease of use and simple operation. The touch-control system immediately allows users to set focus on a subject just by touching the screen and users can even release the shutter to snap a photo directly from the touch screen. Once a user locks onto a subject by a touch, the camera will track the subject with the AF tracking function, even if the subject moves. Touch Zoom is also available when the LUMIX Power Zoom Lens H-PS14042 lens or H-PS45175 is mounted.
Creative Control Mode has been upgraded from the LUMIX DMC-GF3 by increasing filter options available on the LUMIX GF5 from six options to 14, adding Soft Focus*2, Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, One Point Color, Cross Process and Star Filter, in addition to the conventional Expressive, Retro, High Key, Sepia, Hi Dynamic, Miniature Effect*3 and recently introduced Low Key and Toy Effect modes. With the new GUI menu tab, switching filter effects is seamless. A preview of filter effects can be seen on the large LCD screen via Live View mode and the camera intuitively recommends filters depending on the scene that the camera detects in iA (Intelligent Auto) or iA Plus mode.
For beginner users of interchangeable lens system cameras, the GF5 features a new Scene Guide offering 23 sample pictures shot by professional photographers. Users can choose the photo closest to the situation that they are shooting and optimal parameters for shooting the scene will be set automatically*4. Additionally, procedures, technical advice and recommended interchangeable lens options for the scene can be shown to allow users to better understand and learn photography.
In addition to shooting still photography, the LUMIX GF5 can also record 1920×1080 60i* full-High Definition videos in AVCHD format which excels in both compression efficiency and compatibility with AV equipment for playback. In addition to practical full-time AF, the Touch AF in video recording also lets the user enjoy professional-like selective focusing which allows the focus to be changed while shooting video. The LUMIX GF5 features a dedicated video record button on the top of the body so users can instantly start recording videos while shooting photos without having to make setting adjustments. Along with full-HD video capabilities, the LUMIX GF5 also features high-quality sound, recorded with Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator. Videos can be recorded in MP4 format for playback on a PC or other portable electronic devices without having to convert the files.
Additional features of the LUMIX GF5 include:
The LUMIX DMC-GF5 will be available in black, white and red later this year in the following kit options: Body with 14-42mm standard zoom lens will have a suggested retail price (SRP) of $599; body with 14-42mm power zoom lens will have an SRP of $749.

Panasonic goes that bit further with DMC-ZS20 and ZS15 travel zooms
From dpreview.com
The ZS20′s newer 14MP sensor allows the ZS20 to shoot 1080p60 movies in AVCHD or, in an interesting step for one of the creators of the AVCHD format, it can also capture 1080p30 in MP4 format. The ZS15, meanwhile, captures 1080i60 from 30p sensor output or, again, 1080p30 in MP4. It maintains the fast focusing but misses out on the touchscreen, has only a mono mic, no GPS and no nano-coating on the lens.
A non-GPS version of the ZS30, called the ZS27/TZ19 will also exist, probably available only through a limited number of camera stores.

Press Release: The LUMIX TS4, the Optimal Outdoor Companion, Combines a GPS, Compass, Altimeter, Barometer with Waterproof*2, Shockproof*3 and Freezeproof Features, Allowing it to Excel in Photo and Video Capture Under Many Conditions
SECAUCUS, NJ (January 31, 2012) – Panasonic today announced the LUMIX DMC-TS4, the company’s top-of-the-line rugged digital camera with features such as a built-in GPS*1 system, compass, altimeter, barometer, plus outstanding toughness, including: waterproof*2 to approximately 40 feet (12 meters), shockproof*3 to approximately 6.6 feet (2 meters), freezeproof to temperatures as low as 14ºF, and dustproof*2. Beyond its rugged design, the LUMIX TS4 also excels in photo and video quality, offering the best of both worlds with a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with a 4.6x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 28-128mm), a 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor and the advanced image processing LSI Venus Engine, and the ability to shoot 1,920 x 1,080 full-High Definition (HD) video in AVCHD and MP4 formats.
“The LUMIX TS4 is the latest addition to our successful line of rugged digital cameras, which offer users the freedom to take high-quality photos and video under a variety of conditions thanks to a design that is waterproof, dustproof, shockproof and freezeproof. Plus, with added GPS and compass capabilities, the TS4 is the perfect travel companion,” said David Briganti, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Marketing Company of North America. “Beyond its top-of-the-line rugged features, the LUMIX TS4 captures exceptional photos and videos, also making it the ideal “worry-free” everyday digital camera for those life mishaps, like an accidental drop or a spilled drink.”
The LUMIX TS4 is ideal for active outdoor use and the altimeter works as an indicator for depth underwater. The barometer log is available to help users forecast the climate and then log the barometric trends. The altitude measurements can be improved when using the camera’s GPS data, which is enhanced when compared to its predecessor, the LUMIX DMC-TS3. The new GPS system has more than a million landmarks and 82 countries/regions covered in the maps available on the bundled DVD. Geo-tagged images are automatically sorted and can be played back along a map so that users can literally trace their photographic journey. The LUMIX TS4 shows the name of the Country/Region, State/Prov./County, County/Township, City/Town/Village and Landmark – all which is saved in the EXIF data.
Thanks to its high-speed, large-capacity signal processing Venus Engine, the LUMIX TS4 is not just rugged on the outside, but powerful from within as well. The Venus Engine integrates advanced signal processing capabilities to power Intelligent Noise Reduction, thus producing stunning still photos and videos. In addition, the Venus Engine powers high-speed burst shooting and super-fast response times, with Sonic Speed AF, allowing the user to catch those spur-of-the-moment memories.
New to the LUMIX TS-Series, the LUMIX TS4 offers users manual operation, allowing adjustment of shutter speed and aperture for more creative photography. Plus, with modes such as Time Lapse Shot, Miniature Effect, and Panorama Shot – photography is even more fun. With the Time Lapse Shot, once the start time, interval and the number of photos to shoot are set, the camera automatically records the images based on the settings and the LUMIX TS4 can be left to record stationary subjects, such as flowers coming into bloom, clouds, or an animal. Once the data is captured, during playback the footage is condensed to give a unique sense of time. The Miniature Effect mode, in which the peripheries are defocused while saturation and contrast is emphasized, makes the photo look like a diorama. For videos recorded in this mode*4, playback is 10x fast forward, making it comical and amusing to watch. Panorama Shot makes it is possible to shoot a maximum 360-degree of horizontal / vertical panoramic image by taking consecutive shots and overlaying the photos.
For those who are looking for an intuitive shooting option, the LUMIX TS4 includes Panasonic’s popular iA (Intelligent Auto) mode – a suite of technologies that are automatically engaged to allow the camera to select the most appropriate settings to take high-quality photos and videos.
Plus, a dedicated video record lets the user instantly start recording videos while shooting photos without having to go through any additional menu options.
The Panasonic LUMIX TS4 will be available in orange, blue, black and silver options in mid-March 2012 with a suggested retail price of $399.99. For more information on Panasonic LUMIX digital cameras, visit www.panasonic.com/lumix.

Panasonic makes DMC-TS20 semi-rugged compact camera
From dpreview.com
Panasonic has updated its less rugged, more stylish tough model – the DMC-TS20. The TS20 (FT20 outside North America) replaces the TS10 and offers a more useful 25-100mm equivalent lens than its predecessor’s 35-140mm equiv unit. It’s built around a 16MP CCD sensor that limits it to 720p video but this does come in the easy-to-use MP4 format. Despite its less butch styling, the TS20 is still waterproof to 5m (16′) and shockproof from a height of around 1.5m (5′), which should see it withstand relatively carefree use.

Panasonic launches DMC-3D1 compact camera for 3D and 2D images
From dpreview.com
Jump to:
Press Release: SECAUCUS, NJ (November 7, 2011) – Panasonic today announced the LUMIX DMC-3D1, a cutting-edge digital camera that employs two newly-developed lens units with folded optics design in a stunningly compact body that can capture crisp and clear 3D and 2D photos and videos. The LUMIX 3D1, with a twin-lens design, features 25mm ultra-wide angle lenses with 4x optical zoom that offer the outstanding capability to record high resolution 8-megapixel 3D photo and 1920×1080 60i high quality 3D HD video using side-by-side method. The LUMIX 3D1’s optics give users a wider range of composition possibilities with approximately 169% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm cameras.
Featuring a unique shooting option, the new twin-lens system allows the LUMIX 3D1 to capture 2D images and video simultaneously. The LUMIX 3D1 can shoot 12-megapixel 2D photos and record 1920x1080i full HD 2D videos. In conventional standard digital compact cameras, users must shoot in either photo or video mode and when photo mode is selected, video recording is interrupted. The twin-lens design of the LUMIX 3D1 breaks through these conventional barriers with two separate mechanisms for image capturing, allowing for dual shooting capabilities. Additionally, the two-lens design allows users to record photo or video in different angles of view simultaneously. For example, users can record an entire party scene with one lens while zooming in on and capturing the photo of a specific person with another lens. Users can easily switch between 2D and 3D mode with the dedicated 2D/3D switch conveniently located on the back of the camera.
“Panasonic continues to lead the industry in 3D entertainment, giving consumers the opportunity to create their own content and then view it within their homes, and the new LUMIX 3D1 is an innovative digital camera that excels with its 3D imaging technologies, but also offers outstanding 2D photo capture options,” said Darin Pepple, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. “With its twin-lens design, the LUMIX 3D1 can even shoot HD video through one lens and 2D photos from the other – thus getting still and moving content simultaneously, a unique shooting feature which Panasonic provides so users can stretch their creativity.”
The 12-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor and the Venus Engine allow the LUMIX 3D1 to achieve high-quality images and easily process image sensitivity and speed. Multi-process Noise Reduction applies optimal noise reduction according to the brightness of different areas of an image, thus creating crisp and beautiful photos and videos. Both high frequency noise that occurs in the dark area, and low frequency noise in the light are of a photo are suppressed even though occurring simultaneously in a photo. As a result, images recorded in low-light situations are dramatically clear, even when recorded at a high ISO setting.
The LUMIX 3D1 boasts extremely fast consecutive shots at 8 fps (without auto focusing) and 4 fps (with auto focusing) in full resolution. Utilizing quad-CPUs the Venus Engine processes large amounts of 1920x1080i Full-HD data at high speeds in either AVCHD or MP4 formats. Although using two sets of lens units and sensors, energy consumption of Venus Engine stays minimized to maintain the camera’s battery life for as long as that of a single lens compact digital camera. Though the LUMIX 3D1 utilizes advanced functions to shoot exciting 3D and 2D content, it is easy enough for anyone to shoot beautiful 2D photo and videos using iA (Intelligent Auto) mode. iA mode combines a suite of functions to help users achieve the perfect shots, including: MEGA O.I.S, AF Tracking, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Recognition and Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Exposure and Intelligent Handheld Nightshot, which generates beautiful night scenery with illumination by layering multiple images shot consecutively, allowing bright, glamorous night scenery to be recorded without using a tripod. The LUMIX 3D1 features a large 3.5-inch Smart Touch screen on the camera’s back which allows users to easily move through camera functions and recorded photos and videos.
The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-3D1 will be available in December 2011 for a suggested retail price of $499.99. For more information, please visit www.panasonic.com/lumix. • 4000 x 3000 (2D) • 4000 x 2672 (2D) • 4000 x 2248 (2D) • 2992 x 2992 (2D) • Portrait

Press Release: LAS VEGAS, NV, January 5, 2011 ― Casio America, Inc. and its parent company, Casio Computer Co., Ltd., today unveiled the 12.1 megapixel EX-ZR100, the new flagship model for the company’s popular EXILIM® family of digital cameras. Blazingly fast, the EX-ZR100 is powered by Casio’s new EXILIM ENGINE HS with dual core processors, which work together to offer consumers a high-speed shooting experience unlike any other. From high-speed image processing to slow-motion video recording, the next generation EXILIM EX-ZR100 represents a dramatic advancement beyond today’s traditional digital cameras. Also joining the EX-ZR100 is the EX-ZR10. Announced at the 2010 Photokina Expo, the EX-ZR10 is the younger sibling of the more advanced EX-ZR100, and will begin shipping in January 2011.
“Casio is continuously pushing the envelope for what’s possible when it comes to digital cameras, and nothing embodies that approach more than the new EX-ZR100,” said Toshi Iguchi, Senior General Manager, Digital Imaging Division, Casio America Inc. “The EX-ZR100 combines our most advanced imaging technologies and is indicative of the level of innovation that consumers can expect from Casio. This is a camera that we’re proud to call our flagship model for 2011.” high-speed burst shooting. With burst shooting, consumers can capture 30 10 megapixel images at a maximum speed of 40 shots per second. Adding even more versatility, the EX-ZR100’s Pre‑record Continuous Shutter will begin pre-recording images when the shutter button is pressed halfway, ensuring users will not miss a single critical moment even if they’re a little late in snapping the photo. All photos and video can be reviewed on the camera’s high-resolution three-inch LCD (460k).
Getting Creative With Casio’s HDR technology, each press of the shutter button actually takes several shots with different exposures and instantly combines them into a single image with a high dynamic range. This ensures that both light and dark areas are clearly visible in the photograph and that washed out or overly dark areas are minimized. The HDR-ART function uses this HDR technology to create beautifully artistic photographs. It locally controls the contrast and the level of color saturation of the analyzed subject, and achieves the kind of awe-inspiring effects that used to be possible only using dedicated software, all with just one press of the shutter button. The effects of the HDR-ART function can be set at three different processing levels, so now anyone can easily create dramatic, eye-catching HDR images that suit their artistic tastes and are sure to impress.
Users can also get creative with Slide Panorama, which will give them the ability to pan the EX‑ZR100 across a scene, such as an expansive landscape, to capture 360-degree images. Unique about Casio’s Slide Panorama is the fact that the function can detect moving subjects or peoples’ faces and will not use these subjects for the combined points. This makes it easy to take more natural panoramic images. The EX-ZR100 also makes using the camera fun thanks to its Dynamic Photo function. With Dynamic Photo, users can combine moving characters preloaded to the camera’s memory, with a still image or movie background of their choice.
Optics That Pack a Punch The Casio EX-ZR10 is available in black and will ship in January 2011 for $249.99 • 1/2.3″ Type back-illuminated CMOS sensor • 12M (4000 x 3000) • FHD : 1920 x 1080 (30fps) • Stills: JPEG (Exif Version 2.3), DCF 2.0 standard, DPOF compliant Rechargeable lithium ion battery (NP-130)

Press Release: September 20, 2010 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., today announced the latest edition to the EXILIM Hi-Zoom line-up of compact digital cameras with a high-power optical zoom lens—the EX-H20G. Perfect for travelling, the EX-H20G employs Casio’s unique Hybrid GPS system which can track a user’s position against map data stored in the camera’s internal memory. This, when combined with Casio’s original low power consumption technology, means the EX-H20G is ideal for people capturing their memories on the move.
A digital camera first, the EX-H20G can track a user’s position even while indoors. This is due to the Hybrid GPS system which combines a GPS engine with autonomic positioning made possible by a motion sensor. This enables users to take a photo with position information no matter where they are, displaying the user’s location and the photos and movies taken at any place on a map on the screen.
In addition to these features, the camera is pre-loaded with world atlas data and information on about 10,000 sightseeing photo spots around the globe, dramatically changing how people use their digital camera when travelling. The EX-H20G allows users to plan travel while viewing destinations on the on-screen map before departing, and then to confirm their present location, planned destinations, photo locations, photo angles, and route travelled on the map during their trip. After returning home, users can upload their photos to network services which offer location data such as Picasa and Google Earth, clearly displaying the locations visited and the photos taken at each. Capital Online Revenue Introduces Innovate Business Education Techniques
As an alternative to more traditional methods of learning about business and commerce, Capital Online Revenue introduces a new “earn and learn” training program.
Though business colleges remain in great supply, more and more Americans are turning to alternative sources of training and education, particularly during these days of economic upset and uncertainty. The simple truth is that with layoffs so prevalent and incomes so unsteady, investing in a full-time business education simply isn’t a viable option for many entrepreneurs. Instead, they are looking to business training modules that allow for on-the-job training, providing a way to master the tools of the trade even while making a profit. Capital Online Revenue continues to spearhead this movement with the introduction of its new “earn-and-learn” business training techniques.
Different from both traditional business education courses and even other online endeavors, Capital Online Revenue is a service that extends to customers a wealth of resources for learning about online business. What makes Capital Online Revenue services unique, however, is the fact that its training techniques are implemented in real-time. In other words, customers are both learning about online business and establishing their own online business both at the same time.
Though the notion of a make-money-online opportunity is hardly new, the methods being introduced by Capital Online Revenue are unlike anything yet devised by its competitors. What makes this service different is the emphasis it places on its training aspects. Though the long-term goal is for customers to establish their own online business, this comes hand-in-hand with an array of training resources and materials that include not only tutorial videos, but also a unique training component that includes one-on-one coaching from a team of live experts. Capital Online Revenue extends these services through a variety of media, including online chat, e-mail, and phone.
Capital Online Revenue introduction of these features has already met with enthusiasm from its current customer base. The service continues to define its niche, appealing to retirees, stay-at-home-parents, and working professionals who simply lack the time or resources necessary to attend more conventional business classes.

Panasonic has updated its range of travel zoom cameras with the DMC-ZS20 and DMC-ZS15. The 14MP ZS20, sold as the DMC-TZ30 outside North America, is the slimmest 20x zoom camera on the market. Its lens covers a 24-480mm equivalent range and features the company’s latest Power O.I.S stabilization. The 16x, 12MP ZS15 will appear as the TZ25. The high-speed MOS sensor allows the ZS20 to offer autofocus taking as little as 0.1 seconds, and it can shoot at up to 10 frames per second (5fps with AF-tracking). It also has GPS and an updated mapping function to show photos on a map with greater detail. The usefulness of this and other feature is increased by a touchscreen.

Panasonic announces the Lumix 3D1, a twin lens 4x optical zoom compact camera that records 3D and 2D still images as well as 1080i HD video. The camera’s dual 12MP ‘High Sensitivity MOS’ sensors are powered by a Venus Engine processor and allow the user to capture both 2D stills and HD video simultaneously, with each lens able to focus and zoom independently of one another. The 3D1 captures up to 8fps and features a 3.5″ touchscreen. The MSRP is $499.99.

It can record 1080p full HD movies at 30 fps, includes a built-in software for direct upload of images and videos online and comes with a motion-sensitive self-timer. It will be available form April 2011 at a retail price of $249.99.

Pre-CES 2011: Casio has released the Exilim EX-H30 compact superzoom with 12.5x (24-300mm equiv.) zoom lens. Features include 460K dot 3.0″ LCD, 720p HD recording, P/A/S/M shooting modes and SDXC compatibility. It will be available from March 2011 at a retail price of $249.99.

Pre-Photokina 2010: Eight months after exhibiting a prototype in CES 2010, Casio has announced the Exilim EX-H20G with Hybrid GPS. The technology enables the camera to track the camera when indoors or away from the GPS satellite signals. It uses three-axis accelerometers and its three-way direction sensor to determine the location since it last received a signal. The H20G is built around the company’s EX-H15 inheriting its 14.1MP sensor, 10x (24-240mm) zoom lens and 3.0″ LCD . It can also record 720p HD videos with H.264 compression, and features a faster Exilim Engine HS engine.

Pre-Photokina 2010: Casio has introduced the Exilim EX-ZR10 with a 12.4Mp back-illuminated CMOS sensor. Powered by the latest Exilim Engine HS engine, it can record high-speed movies at up to 480 fps as well as 1080p full HD movies. It comes with a 28-196mm equivalent lens and 3.0 inch LCD, and features in-built HDR processing plus 360 degrees panoramic image capture with what it calls a ‘Slide Panorama’ mode.

Pre-Photokina 2010: Casio has introduced the Exilim EX-Z2300. Similar to the Z2000 introduced in January this year, it is built around a 14Mp sensor, 26-130mm optical zoom lens and 3.0″ LCD, and records 720p HD videos. It features the company’s latest Single Frame SR Zoom feature that extends the camera’s zoom range while claiming to maintain high resolution image quality. Its ‘Dynamic Photo’ option enables users to add preset graphics to images, including a monkey doing a handstand and a dog riding a bicycle (yes really).

Pre-Photokina 2010: Casio has introduced the Exilim EX-Z16 budget compact camera. Sporting an image-stabilized 12.1 Mp sensor, 2.7 inch LCD and 3x optical zoom (35.5 to 106.5mm equiv), it includes an Easy Mode, widescreen video recording and a YouTube capture mode. The Z16 will be available from the end of this month at retail price of $99.99
